Westcott Community Tree Nursery and Forest Garden
Westcott Community Tree Nursery and Forest Garden is an exciting new project with a number of Bloom partners including South Swindon Parish Council, the Great Western Community Forest, and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
It aims to collect and grow, locally sourced seed, nuts, berries and cuttings from tree and shrub species, that can be used to supplement tree planting schemes in and around the Borough.
Alongside the production of local trees, the land area also provides opportunities to demonstrate and provide other tree-based habitats as well as a “Fedge” (a woven willow living hedge), withy beds containing varieties of willow that provide materials for basket making, hazel coppice, an orchard seasonal fruits, berries, and perennial food.
As the tree nursery develops it will provide a safe and secure place for people of all abilities to be involved and gain new skills, knowledge and meet with others.
